Dr. Matthew Lau grew up in Alameda. As a child, he was raised to be an engineer, and grew up around slide rules and drafting utensils.  He changed to healthcare only after going on a mission trip to Mexico.

He served on the Alameda County Dental society’s board of directors, the Northern California Asian American Dental Association’s board of directors, and was on the Continued Education Committee of the Sacramento Dental Society.  Dr. Lau also served at the Berkeley Free Clinic and headed a school outreach to local public schools to teach children on how to avoid cavities.

Dr. Lau can empathize with anyone scared of dentists, as he too was afraid of them too. So now, he is able to meet patients where they are.

Dr. Tiffany Sum has been a practicing dentist for 5 years. In her residency, she worked on a variety of patients, including the medically complex and special needs. She is currently a professor at Highland Hospital.

In addition to practicing, she gained experiences in mentoring both UCSF students and residents at Highland across the Alameda Health System sites. Having worked at such an institution, she has found pleasure in being able to serve the community, especially for those in need and the underserved. Most importantly, making a difference in patients' lives whether big or small.

Outside of dentistry, she enjoys cooking, exploring new recipes, and spending time in nature via hiking and exploring the bay area, taking one breath of fresh air at a time.
