Partial extraction therapy

This is a noninvasive surgical extrusion technique that can allow you to keep your tooth, and avoid an implant or bridge.  It can only be done if you have the right conditions.   It is also an exceptionally uncommon technique that was first introduced to Dr. Lau by Dr. Paolo, Guizi;   Photos from Dr. Karim Khalife of Montreal, QC.

Why?

Traditionally, teeth broken at the gumline would be considered unsavable.   Traditionally, we would recommend extracting the teeth, and having an implant or a bridge made.

Keeping the same tooth.

PET (Partial Extraction Therapy) allows us to surgically move the root up, so that it can still be used for a crown.

This is a non invasive procedure that takes minutes, and creates a bio-native implant using your own natural tooth.

Benefits

Teeth naturally have shock absorbing periodontal (gum) fibers.   These fibers offer protective shock resistance, and feedback to prevent overloading.

Criteria

Partial extraction therapy requires the following:

1. The tooth should not have a vertical fracture.

2. The tooth is single rooted, or has a strong supporting root that can take all the force.

3. The tooth should be root canal treated.
